Carving the Tara Harp

A Rare Medieval Treasure

Cuthbertson Tara harp pillar detail

To make a harp really stand out on center stage special artwork and craftsmanship is added to enhance its beauty and appeal to the beholder. A lot of extra time and effort is expended on a custom harp but the end results are spectacular. I enjoy working with customers to personalize their harp with a theme of their choice.

Here a peace dove and olive branch theme was used to decorate this Tara harp. Other themes include traditional Celtic dragons of of antiquity as found on the original version. Whether whimsical or formal, the Tara harp can express a theme that reflects you perfectly.

Soundboards are fantastic surfaces for eye catching artwork. Traditional layouts can be modified to include your theme or completely new ideas and layouts can be explored. Even the front of the pillar can be used to make personal statements like this stylized treble clef blended into the owner's initials with a Celtic style of knot work.

The drawing and carving and painting process is very time consuming and tedious at times, but great art cannot be rushed. I take great pleasure  in a job well done and enjoy a customer's delight when they receive the harp of their dreams that they can't wait to play on center stage.
